On Sunday morning we began our journey through Spain with a visit to Santo Domingo do Silos, a town built around the historic Abbey of St. Dominic of Silos. The monastery has a special place in the story of our Holy Father St. Dominic. His mother Blessed Jane made a pilgrimage to the tomb of the great abbot saint to pray that God would give her a son. Her prayers were answered and she named his first born son after the great intercessor. We were privileged to joins the monks for Lauds and were treated to a tour of the monastery by one of the brothers.
